Skewed Perception

I don't get it. I reallllllly don't get it.

Being a super-duper fan of The Amazing Race (Phil Keoghan sebenornye...ahaks!), I get menggelabah and over excited tak tentu pasal when the racing teams of the reality-based show made its way to our shores recently. I mean, it's darn time we get featured in this race man! Yes yes, I know Malaysia was briefly shown a few seasons back, but note the operative word here, "briefly".

Well, in this season, we're talking a whole FULL day in Malaysia. Yessiree folks. Phil Keoghan in KL a whole day? Wowee! Well anyhoo, the idealist (and sometimes nationalist) in me was excited that we get to show the world how exciting the colourful and interesting our country is. I truly was. I was envisioning a footrace across Botanical Park ke, or abseiling down Gua Niah ke...anything of the sort that shows how lawa our country is.

But noooooo....

Instead, we get to see some really grimy street alleys, a comot jejantas and some old cars up and down a dusty street. By the power of quick editing, Malaysia successfully looked like slums.

The only consolation was the nice albeit small shots of the Petronas Twin Towers, Batu Caves, and Carcosa Seri Negara.
Even then, it didn't manage to counter what The Entrapment potrayed years earlier. Boleh naik sampan pegi KLCC konon. :P
